The Africa Cup of Nations 2008 is scheduled to begin in Ghana on January 20, 2008 to February 10, 2008 and everyone is chomping at the bit to watch it.

It is interesting to note that there are 16 teams competing for the cup and only one of them comes from East Africa (Sudan –although, technically, some would say that it is more Middle East than Africa…but that’s a different discussion). Here are the groups:

Group A – Ghana, Namibia, Guinea, Morocco
Group B – Nigeria, Benin, Mali, Cote d’Ivoire
Group C – Egypt, Sudan, Zambia, Cameroon
Group D – Tunisia, Angola, South Africa, Senegal

Kenyan London Demo: Appeal for peace in kenya

Kenyans in the UK once again hit the road to demonstrate in London, calling on the international community to be more assertive on the Kenyan situation, saying “We must not wait until Rwanda is replayed before action is taken!”

The demo started at Embankment at 1pm, went to Number 10 and then camped at 45 Portland Place – The Kenya High Commission.

Elsewhere Kenyans in the Diaspora are massing efforts to assist in the humanitarian efforts back home.  Church groups and individual charities run by Kenyans here in the UK have indicated mobilisation to raise funds to go towards the relief efforts.

Over 600 kenyans have lost their lives and another 600,000 plus displaced in the violence that gripped the country following what is described as rigged presidential elections.
